XP Boot a bit iffy!

Sometimes it boots OK.
Sometimes it hangs on the blue Welcome screen.
Sometimes in hangs on the Wallpaper.
May be coincidental but it began right after I had McAfee Tier2 technicial work remotely to sort an AV installation problem.
Is this a mbr repair or something else?
(Fruitbat)?

Run chkdsk

and do a repair
type

sfc /scannow

in the run box, press enter and let system file checker find and replace missing / corrupt file in windows and explorer. This will take awhile to complete and you may be asked for the CD to be in the drive if windows is not preinstalled on the hard drive.

Hi Fruit Bat /\0/\.
I've carried out both the checks you suggest but it's still the same!

I'm surprised you have done both checks in 20 minutes .

Suggest you do them in safe mode and see if it makes a difference.

Don't be surprised - I did them after the trouble started a few days ago ;-)
I have never got sfc /scannow to run in safe mode - just a flash of a window then it's over! Runs OK normally.
Chkdsk just runs after a re-boot so I can't put the computer into safe mode to run it unless there's a way to run it in safe mode?
There's not much left to check so I may as well try the repair option and re-build the mbr. I just wondered if anyone had any other idea's.
