XP behaving badly

Please help

I have 2 PC and they are connected via a 802.11B wireless USB card attached to each PC.Connected ad hoc.

One pc runs XP Home and the other W98, i can see the drives and acsess both, but the XP mashine will not connect to the internet via the wireless card. I have run the Home Network setup utility and set the TCIP settings etc. No Joy !!!

The old mashine running W98 has internet sharing server software, it came with the wireless card, and that is installed as the host on this W98 mashine.( its got the ADSL card in it and connects as before )

The wireless card on the XP mashine is from Netgear and does not have any of that software supplied with it, just a configurations Panel.

Where could the problem be ? there is no means to set up the LAN to be the default connection to the net and the host ??? As there is no dial up set on the XP mashine and there seems no way ( i can see )to do it with the options offered by XP.
