If I do a completely new re-install of Windows XP do I have to do another activation of the operating system? If I have to do this how many times am I allowed to do it?

Yes you do. More often than people think. I think its once every 90 or 120 days or so....

Yes it will need re-activating, but if there have been no hardware changes then you can do it as many times as you wish, several each day if you want.

you just re-activate using the online facility - it is a pain in the bum but no real hassle to be honest

dth - "a pain in the bum but no real hassle" - the former would seem to imply the latter. :-}
