XP + 98 SE network

Any help please with:

Win XP Home
Win 98 SE

I am trying to network the two together using NETGEAR MAIOI wireless network adaptors

The bloke in PC world said plug one in each 'puter, put the CD in and follow the on screen stuff and away you go.
The 98 one seems like it may be ok as it's screen says that it is 'scanning'. so i presume it,s looking for the other unit?
The problem starts on set up in XP with network protocols I think
Cheers Col

Have you turned off your firewall in Xp that could be blocking the other pc.
Try setting the adapters to 'Ad hoc'.

When a network is set up using XP it automatically turns on the firewall that is built in to XP I had this problem with my network disabling the firewall solved the problem.

I have just set up my network with the Netgear MA101 adaptors,Win XP to 98SE and had problems with the XP machine. It was sorted by making sure the built in XP firewall was disabled and then configuring Norton firewall to recognise the IP addresses of the adaptors. Hope this is of some help.
