XMS Manager

I have aquired an old Acer computer and I have been 'messing'around with to see if I could get it working.
I have managed to access DOS so I was able to see what was on the hard disk using DIR command.
I can see that windows is loaded on the HD but when I try to access it I get a message saying I 'require an XMS Manager'.Can someone please explain what that is in laymans terms and perhaps where I can obtain it.

Xtended Memory Manager.

It's an old DOS memory manager that allows more memory to be accessed than DOS was originally designed to accept.
