Word/Excel take ages to load

I've just downloaded Office 97 SP1 and SP2 to sort out a minor porblem and now find that when opening Word and Excel it takes an eternity to open a blank page or file.

Wish I'd left it alone (again) now!

I have a 64 3000+ & a SATA drive.
Word seems to take about 4 secs to load on my pc wher at work it is instant. They use P4's on IDE drives. Admittedly they are only 20 GB wher mine is 120 GB, :)
Have u defragged the drive?
Also you could reinstall windows, then put your software on next (after your drivers etc)
Also if its part of a works package only install the components needed.
You may have a virus checker which does a scan of the documents before they open. I know my Norton does this.

it's loaded immediately so I'm completely confused now.

I defragged last night to no avail.

Thanks for responding.

If it happens again, whilst loading look at the bottom of the screen and see if it is requesting a virus check, as this can drastickly slow loading time. If it is, this can be disabled (can't remember just now how, but at least you'll know what to look for in the menus).
