Word/Excel 2003 problems to Word/Excel 2007

Have just installed Office 2007 on new computer. I have copied files from old computer (Word/ Excel from Office 2003) and they have often been mutilated !! I do not seem to be able to re-adjust them to their original state. This affects pictures/text and tables. What am I doing wrong ?? This should be a doddle - why is it not ??

Any help appreciated ?

Please explain what you mean by 'mutilated'.

Well one brief example - 'consequently' becomes 'conseqwently' ! In general phonetic sounds can (but do not always) replace actual text. Also exclamation marks inserted between words. Copied photographs (again some but not all) are also distorted.

For additional information I used a USB flash drive to copy files from the old computer to the new one - could this in some way have corrupted things ??
