Word starts in a document

Having been updating my autotext entries in Word, Office XP I must have inadvertantly pressed someting wrong because now when I open Word it presents a new document but instead of being blank it has text in it. It is called new document. I cannot find any info anywhere in help etc on how to control the opening doc. Any help would be most welcome.

It would appear tht you have saved a document as your NORMAL.DOT file.

If you shut down Word and search for the NORMAL.DOT file and rename any entries as say NORMAL.OLD and then restart Word it will build a new NORMAL.DOT file.

Any customisation e.g. autotext entries will probably be lost and have to be re-entered.

Peters solution is correct please remember that
Normal.dot is your basic Word template it is a good idea to have a backup copy of it somewhere. I did this when changing computers so all my many autotext entries were preserved.

Your solution is correct. It's just that the poster has vanished!
