word and opening documents

Whenever I open a document by double clicking on the file, it opens up correctly in word, but with the filename document1.

This doesn't happen when the file is opened through the file menu in word itself.

This sounds to me like a part of the entry in the Association has been corrupted so the document is opening as a new document. I can give you all the enries in the "File Types" window for Windows 98se and Word 2000, but I don't know what they are for XP

It is for windows 98

The actual document is as it should be in that all the text is correct but it isn't called by the name it was saved as, just as document1.
