WORD Format Niggle ??

  Furkin 13:14 10 Aug 05

Hi all,
Sorry to take your time on a simple matter, but: When I write in WORD, I now can’t delete a batch of text by using Highlight block & then BACK SPACE button. I can still do it by using the DELETE button.
I can delete characters one at a time by using (& holding down) BACK SPACE.
This is a recent occurrence.
Any idea what I clicked by mistake please ?

Is the back space button actually working?

i.e. try back spacing one character and see if it is actually removing that character.

yep - see original text.
I can delete as many charectors as I want, by holdong down the B.Space key.
It just happens when I want to delete a chunk 'en-bloc' like I used to.
I thought that I might have clicked something in the Format/Tools,,, but I can't see where !
It seems to be o.k in other applications !
thanks for your kind reply

Go to Tools, Options, Edit tab and tick 'Typing replaces selection'.

Many thanks Eric, that seems to have done it. I must have clicked that when I had an earlier niggle with Word,,,, whereby when I was putting characters into an existing row, ‘it’ would over-write the existing text instead of moving it along !
Thanks to all who read this
