Word Fonts Menu

I use MS Office 200 Pro with Windows 98SE on my computer which has an Athlon 1200 processor and 256MB RAM. I am now finding that each time I open Win Word the font menu can take quite a while to drop down and just occasionally may even refuse to open. I see that I have accumulated over 200 hundred fonts in the Windows/Fonts folder. Should I delete some of these to resolve the problem or is there some other cause?

Try a bit of housekeeping click here

200 fonts is tops for easy Windows 98SE, but before you delete those you really don't want, do some ordinary housekeeping checks.

Use msconfig - (startup tab) to make sure that only essential programs are running.

Clear out old dross with something like CClean.

Finally you could spend money on more RAM though as you near the '98 limit of 512Mb the result ceases to be cost effective. I think another 128 would be helpful - just clean the whole thing up first!
