Word 2007 - yet another page numbering problem

I have come to the conclusion that there must be a problem with my installed Word 2007 program. I just can NOT get the page numbering to work. I have gone to the first page of Chapter 1 in my large document and inserted a page number in the footer, using the ribbon and the 'insert' option. But there are no page numbers on subsequent pages.

Has anyone any more ideas? I am almost sure that the section and page breaks are set up correcty.

Many thanks, as always.

If there is a section break on page one then try selecting page 2, insert page numbers and adjust the option to start numbering from accordingly.

I am sowly getting there. Yes, it did work with putting the header in page two, instead of page one of the section - up to a point. Sometimes it alters the header of *two* sections before!!

It is taking *days*.

Is there a way of cancelling ALL the 'same as previous' label in the headers and footers of the whole document, I wonder?
