Word 2003 funny formatting

  johnincrete 07:47 13 May 09

By funny, I don't mean it makes me laugh!!
If I select a bit of text and change its formatting then the formatting is applied to the whole of the document. eg. select a word, click on "B" to get bold text and the whole document becomes bold. Click on the undo arrow and the document returns to what is was but the formatted text is as it should be. This is something that has only recently started to happen. Maybe at some time I have made something to be a default but what & where I do not know.
Any ideas?

The default document template may be corrupt. Close Word, then search for the file normal.doT (you will need to enable searching for hidden files and folders). Rename it to normal.old then start Word and see if the problem persists.

I can't give you step by step instructions because I no longer use Word 2003 but look at the affected style in the Style Manager. You'll find that it is set to 'Automatically Update'. Just remove the tick from this feature.
