Word 2000 - strange movements of cursor, & deletio

Got a problem on an ACER laptop running Windows XP professional and Office 2000. Intermittently (About every 4 or 5 pages of text), the cursor moves either up, down, or sideways while typing. Also sometimes it highlights about ten lines and if not quick enough to save the file it deletes those lines. Very frustrating. We have installed a separate mouse to use instead of the touchpad mouse on the laptop. However we have found that unlike other laptops both mice work instead of the plugged in one disabling the touchpad. We have been very careful to avoid touching either the touchpad or the cursor movement keys as we type. We have just removed Office 2000 and re-installed and are awaiting the results of this solution.

Anybody out there seen this before or got any other fixes?

Regards,

CCT

There should be an option in the control panel to disable the touchpad; check there for options.

My daughter is having a similar problem with her laptop which is an Advent running XP HOME.She has a separate logitech optical mouse plugged in and having made sure that the logitech mouse and touch pad are completely untouched the cursor will move randomly and will sometimes go off the screen. I`ve been unable to find the reason so far an have posted a query a little ealier about it under the heading of Mouse arrow goes walkabout. Sorry cant help further but thought you would like to know you`re not alone. Meshuga.
