Won't stop highlighting text

Hi, I'm a teacher and I took my class of 6 year olds into our school computer room to use word (practicing using enter and the shift key to insert capital letters) they all used a word document I had saved on the school server. Many of them developed a problem with text being highlighted everytime they clicked anywhere. Had using the shift key caused this? How do I stop it happening?

I don't know if this is relevant - but if you click three times in the left margin of a word document it will highlight all the text. But it seems unlikely that many of them happened to be doing this?

Your children has envoked what called in Windows "Sticky Keys" which is activated by pressing the Shift key more than 5 times in a row. It effectivly makes the shift key stuck so everything gets highlighted. To deactivate it press the shift key 5 times or more in a row and click cancel.
