Have you scanned for wireless networks and tried to connect? Oh, and is the wireless switched on on the laptop? (some have a switch on the side).

>>> when i pull the cable out of the laptop, the wireless stops working

Stops working with what - the Laptop itself or other devices connected wirelessly? If it's the other devices, it almost sounds as though they are connecting in an "Ad Hoc" wireless network to the Laptop's wireless adapter instead of connecting to the router. Try setting up the wireless connections again for these devices with the Laptop switched *off*.

If it's the Laptop which loses internet access when the ethernet cable is unplugged, then it hasn't connected properly to the router.

I think that wireless router is not configured properly. Check out this wireless network setup tutorial click here , hope could give you more ideas to sove the problem.

Hope this helps.
