Wireless Speed vs Wired speed

Running a broadband speed test on a desttop pc wired directly into the router gives me a speed of 9.5 mbps. The same test run on a number of different wireless devices connected to the same router is giving a speed of only 1.5 mbps even though the signal strength itself is excellent. All wireless devices except for the one running the test were off during the testing so there can't be any interference between them. Due to other issues I've replaced the router with a brand new N router and the same speed issue still exists. Verifying that the equipment is all okay. Surely the wireless speed should be much closer to the wired speed when it's the only device running. Any ideas?

Ethernet speeds will usually be greater than wireless but there is quite a discrepancy in your speeds. Have you had a go at changing the wireless channel on your router? Have a look at this article which explains why you may be having problems and how you may be able to solve them.
