I have a Linksys wireless router/modem and my laptop is linked wirelessly to it and my desktop is linked by the yellow cable but as soon as the desktop is connected via the cable the laptop loses it's internet connection. Anyone got any ideas as to why this should be happening.

When the laptop is connected wirelessly to the router and getting online, what is its IP address?

Go to "Control Panel > Network Connections", highlight the "Wireless Network Connection" and then look at the very bottom of the left pane of the window where you should see its IP address. It *should* be a 192.168.1.x address.
