Wireless router off a wireless modem?

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I have a property with thick walls/floors and want to provide wireless access upstairs. The signal off the current modem (Orange Livebox), downstairs, does not reach the upper floors. Would it be possible to run a wireless router (via ethernet) off the current modem and place the router on the upper floor?

I have looked at alternatives, including the Powerline system, does anyone know if there is much signal degredation if you have mutiple receiving sockets?

Hi, I have never tried them myself but I think you will need something like this click here
Be careful if you look at Linskis, read the comments apparently it works very well but is not easy to configure.
