wireless print server to multi function device

I am upgrading all of my equipment at home and going WIFI. I am considering purchasing a combined printer/scanner (Epson multi function device as reviewed in recent PC Advisor) to connect to a wireless print server. I haven't been able to find much out about this apart from the fact that it may be possible to print only to some devices but that the device would need to be connected to the PC when using the scanner. I have switched to a wireless enabled laptop. Of course I know that to scan I will need to be beside the scanner anyway, I am just not sure if I would need to physically connect them everytime I wanted to use the scanner. I could live with just wireless printing if I was sure I could still use the scanner in a multi function device. Any thoughts on this?
