Wireless Network for a Big House

Please advise on the best way to set up a wireless network for a big house, 3 stories with thick brick walls. The router/modem (BT Phone line) could be on any of the three floors or indeed all three if that is allowed. Can we have more than one router/modem working at the same time?
We have tried the latest BT Home Hub but it needs to go on the middle(first) floor in one location to give any wirelss at all on the ground floor; there is still no wirelss on the top floor.
Advice PLEASE....

There are numerous options.
You can;
Add a wirless access point on the ground floor.

Use a wireless repeater to boost the signal through the whole house:
