Simple Question...

2 Computers, 1 downstairs near a broadband telephone line, 1 upstairs and not.

Going to get a wireless broadband modem for the computer downstairs and an adapter for upstairs.

I need to know can you use the broadband over the wireless modem without the PC its connected to being powered up. (i.e can i surf upstairs without the pc downstairs being turned on?)

i think you can, but does any1 have any suggestions as to which ones are recommended?

Many Thanks

"can you use the broadband over the wireless modem without the PC its connected to being powered up."

As long as you get a router with the adsl modem built in then yes you can.

buy an ADSL wireless modem/router, that will have its own power supply, so no the first computer won't need to be on

You need to make sure that you buy a wireless modem with a gateway. The gateway part will connect to the broadband if the downstairs pc is on or not. hope this answers your question.
