Wireless laptop mystery

A friend of mine has a laptop and a BT Home Hub. Although he can connect to the net via Cat Cable he cannot connect wirelessly. I took my laptop to his house, typed in the WEP key and I was on the net no problem. So the problem appears to be with the way his laptop is configured. He is using Windows Visa on a Sony Vio laptop. I realise the details are sketchy but any suggestions would be welcome.

It seems one of the updates put entries in the registry to start a Vaio Lan Manager with Windows.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Check these keys to see if any kind of a 3rd party Lan Manager is running. If so, delete the entries and reboot.
