Wireless laptop cannot print

I have a network with a wireless Windows 7 laptop and
an ethernet-connected Vista desktop. Both access the internet OK, and the laptop can "see" the Desktop and read the public files there. It can also "see" both printers, but it can only print to the 10yr old HP840C desktop. It can "see" but not print to the new Epson Stylus SX400 all-in-one. I get "Printer not ready" and the diagram showing ink content shows the ink tanks greyed-out. How can I resolve this?

Set the Epson as the Default printer in Control Panel, then try again.

All fixed now. Thanks a lot Technotiger. I also had two versions of the Epson printer showing. My fault. I never realised how much a network could do.
