Wireless (Lack of) Connectivity

I recently just got a laptop and allowd it to connect to my server (using a Linksys WAP11 and BT Voyager 20 modem). My computer has a WMP11 card and my new laptop has a built in Intel card.

Some of the time I get a very good signal, but other times my signal strength is low and so is my signal speed (should be about 11mbps - when it's slow it's 1mbps)

What can I try and do to make it fast?

I also have another wireless computer upstairs, which also uses a WMP11 and that works fine.

If its the laptop, you may have to find the hotspots in your house, unfortunately wireless does not seem to cover each square centimeter with a blazing signal.
