If I connect my external hard drive to my Computer via my network will I have to use the power cable as well. Sorry if this is a stupid question

The only external drives ive seen are connected by usb,how do you access it without it being plugged in and connected to power source?

tullie got me worried now. This is a Freecom and it hasnt been delivered yet but according to their website it does connect with either a usb or ethernet connection.. Thanks for your response. Has anyone else any ideas on this please.
