wireless coverage

I've got a Netgear DG834G wireless modem .It works well enough if I'm up to about 10 feet away but either slows right down or stops working when I increase this distance.
Strangely I can pick up a signal from my next door neighbour's house and one 5 doors away- about 60 yards.Does this mean I'm doing something wrong?

1) Check the aerial. Is it screwed in properly.

2) Check your surroundings, as you move away, do you pass anything substantial, like a metal door, or thick wall.

3) Do you have a DECT cordless phone between you & the router? These have been know to interfere, as have microwave ovens.

4) Re-post this in the Networking forum, somewhere there may be able to help.

Try changing the Chanel in the Router, It would get better range if you had the router upstairs
