A friend's son has an Acer 292 laptop which, for some reason was supplied with XP Professional. His classmates all have laptops which use XP Home. Their machines connect seamlessly to the school wireless network but his refuses to make a connection. Is there something special about XP Pro with regard to wireless connections or what are the other likely causes of the problem?

is it running service pack 2. Because the windows firewall does cause problems try turning it off.

Thanks scooby 43. I have passed on the tip, but of course it can't be tested until after the school holidays.

I mean not to sound confusing the school dosnt use wep just incase your friends son needs it to access the school network.
