Wireless connection comes and goes abruptly

Hi! I have a dell inspiron 1501 running Vista and an HP Desktop (Touchsmart) also running Vista, a D-Link router. Desktop connects wirelessly with no problems. Laptop sometimes connects but recently has been having occasional problems (which means I stay 5 hours trying to figure it out). The dell connects with the cable just fine. I reset the router on several occasions (in some it worked), but the problem with the dell wireless connection remains. Any clues as to why the system is so inconsistent? Do u think it is a router or a laptop configuration problem? Or just the usual Vista crap? I've seen many forums on the same topic but none with solutions to this sort of issue...Appreciate any help!

The fact that LAN is OK and your wifi connection drops abruptly suggests it's interference on the wifi. Could be another user with a router set to the same channel, could be some other appliance like a DECT phone or bluetooth. Could it be your wifi card has a power saving feature and is reducing power after a certain time (thus rebboting would start it again).

Thanks. It is not the wifi card configuration, I have unchecked that option...have changed also the channel to see if that will work...will let you know...
