How can I find out if my desktop & notepad are capable of wireless connection?

The lap top is Dell Inspiron 5000.

As per above it will have either USB, PCMCIA card slot, or an ethernet port (possibly under a cover) - all can be used to connect directly to wireless or via another device.

A small bird tells me you should have two card slots and one USB, so yes it can go wireless - just need a network card or USB adapter.
