is it possible to connect two laptops wirelessly to work on a piece of work???? or do you need a router or something to be able to let you do it???

Yes you can connect two Wireless Network Adapters (wireless enabled laptops) directly to create what is known as an "Ad Hoc" wireless network.

Unless you are using "Internet Connection Sharing" over the wireless network, you will have to assign IP addresses manually to the two "Wireless Network Connections" in the Network Connections folder.

Give the two adapters the IP addresses 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 with the *SAME* Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0

First of all, if you have the two laptops, open the Network Connections folder, right click the "Wireless Network Connection", select Properties and highlight the entry for "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". Click the Properties button. In the box that opens, enter the addresses as - click here If there is no interent involvement over the network the Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses can be left blank. Do the same in the second laptop but use the IP address 192.168.0.2

You should have software in the laptops for configuring the Wireless settings and for scanning for "Available Wireless Networks". Set the adapters to work with an "Ad Hoc" wireless network and enter the same SSID (network name) in both adapter settings.

Both computers need to be in the *same* Workgroup - right click "My Computer", select Properties and then the Computer Name tab to set the Workgroup name.

You might find some useful information at click here where they have networking tutorials
