Wired router/modem

I am having trouble with my Thomson 330 modem at the moment. I run Vista Home Premium 64 bit and Orange is my ISP. I obtained from them their "new" modem installation disc which originally refused to work - "This disc is not compatible with 64 bit operation". Orange technical people could not solve the problem. I got round it by copying the disc to a flash drive and installed it from there.

However, I would like to use a wired router/modem in the hope that it will solve the problem of trying to re-install the Thomson modem on Win 7. I have in mind the Netgear D834 model which seems to have good reports. Has anyone any comments or advice? I assume that this router would work with Win 7 - I can find nothing to the contrary.
