hi ive got 2 pc with realtek rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic the main computer has p4 3 ghz and is connectted to telwest 2mg broadband by motorola surfbord sb4100 what is the best router to use and what cables do i need to wire them up with and how? also can i put a printer on the network as well

parts needed

cable router
1 crossover cable should be supllied with the modem
2 patch cables

can you connect a printer? yes

you have 2 ways of doing this

1 connect the printer to one of the machines you can then share it with the other one over the network the

2 get a dedicated print server

now for the tough one best router you will get various answers on this different people have different views

shop round a bit well known names

are belkin netgear linsky D-link to name a few
shop round see what deals you can get

OR Finally you could throw all that out of the window and buy a crossover cable and link them directly the down side of this is the machine connected directly to the internet needs to be on for the other to access the net
