Wiping hard drive?

A friend is trying to sell his old PC (P2 333) he has reformatted the HDD but someone has told him that information can still be recovered even after reformatting...firstly is this true?...secondly what software would you recommend to remove any trace ( i have been told that he has bank details etc etc...so no its all above board!!)

Technically, it's true data can still be recovered but it costs an awful lot of money. Unless your friend is an FBI or MI5 agent I don't think I would worry about it. Whoever buys it will want to install their own stuff on it which will eventually overwrite anything that might be recoverable.
