winxp shutdown new install

hi i have just formatted and installed win xp on a new asrock k7s8x motherboard. eveything seems to work fine apart from shut down. it goes through the usuall "windows is shutting down" "saving your settings" etc but at the last event i am left with either a light blue, the winxp blue NOT THE DEATH SCREEN blue, it has no notation on it, or black screen with the optical drive ticking, as if it was been powered on and off. In both case both the ps fan and cpu fan continue running. Pressing the power button brings the computer back to life as if it was just powered up boot sequence NOT out of any standby

any ideas

This might cure your problem

Start Regedit
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Edit the key PowerOffActive and give it a value of 1
You can do the same in HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
