Hi guys,

New to this forum and needing some assistance! got a Dell inspiron 1100 (:( i know!!!). running XP, all is not well however, and the laptop has slowed down almost to a halt. I have run the lastest anti-virus and anti-spyware that i can find. It is ok to browse the internet but opening documents, and listening to music is impossible (it jumps every second almost!).

The diagnostic tests at startup show DST short test failure (error 1000-0146) but computer is operating and starting up ok. I seem to be missing some of the system tools in the programs menu and thought that might be one of the reasons behind the slow-down. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!

cheers

Try running a system file check. Go to Start/Run/type sfc /scannow and hit enter. You may need your XP Cd.
Also download and run CCleaner

The hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced ASAP.
All the drivers you need can be downloaded from support.dell.com
