winows xp home no sound

ok here goes, i run windows xp home edition ,everything has worked fine for over a year since i bought my puter ,but 2 days ago i switched on tried to play an mp3 and a box came up telling me i have no sound ,so i checked this out and my computer is telling me no sound device detected ,also i tried to print something and its telling me i have no printer even though i've been using my printer for over a year and i've now noticed my clock time in the bottom right of my screen is larger and when i click my computer it does'nt show my cd rom or dvd drives,any help would be greatly appreciated i just dont know whats going on ,ty in advance
