windowsme startup freezes

I'm running windows ME on a AMD 1.2gig 128 ram system. When I first turn my pc on it gets as far as the logo screen then just freezes but if I press the reset and choose normal startup everything starts up fine. I have checked for windows updates and run Norton Utilities both show no problems. Windows help says about switching off drivers etc but I'm not that confident . Can anyone help ?

Well, an option would be to run msconfig and untick anything that you do not need to run at startup - there may be a conflict there.

I had the same problem in Windows ME so I upgraded to XP Home loaded exactly the same programes I used in Win ME and guess what? I have exactly the same problem!!!
