Windows XP Won't Boot...

Having deleted this called " eied_s7_c_77.exe " within C:\eied_s7 to remove a Trojan from an earlier thread I now can't boot into Windows !

It says \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt - you can attempt a repair by using the recovery console.

In the recovery console it only gives me one windows installation to log into and that is 1:D\ZoldWINplus

so I select this but I don't have the administrator password as it is an emachine from PCWorld.

Is there anyway to repair or get back into Windows or am I looking at a complete format ?

"If you receive the "system" is missing or corrupt message just boot into the Recovery Console or BartPE and copy "system" from c:\windows\repair to c:\windows\system32\config

PS in your case it may be D:\windows\repair to D:\windows\system32\config

Try leaving the password blank.

But I dont think thats the windows installation it should be on the C Drive.

Fruit Bat - glad to see you are still covering this forum.

When I Press R for the recovery console it says which installation would you like to log into and only lists the following:

1:D\ZoldWINplus

I have to type 1 as nothing else seems to be accepted ?

So on typing 1 it asks me for the administrators password which I don't have !

Is there a way around this please ?

Tried leaving the password blank but it is incorrect and prompts me again.

Does anyone Know the Administrator Password for "e Machines" computers !?

Do you think if I called the tech support and explained the situation they would tell me it!?

Try this. Restart and keep tapping the F8 key before the Windows screen loads. From the boot menu that should appear select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Once this has loaded, at the > prompt type

c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and press the Enter key.

This will launch System Restore. Go back to a time before you deleted the file (bad advice on my part, sorry) or preferably before you got the trojan.

If I have to format the hdd I won't have the motherboard drivers.

I know that Belarc Advisor might be able to identify the motherboard but I suspect that it is specific to emachines and so I may not be able to download the drivers ?

Are emachines motherboards specially made for them ?

I can't see any branding or text on the motherboard.

Thanks VOG

Unfortunately that doesn't work I just keep getting the error message

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt - you can attempt a repair by using the recovery console.
