Windows XP won't auto detect my CD Rom drive

  Along 17:04 18 Dec 04

After installing Windows XP Home I inserted a CD in the CD Rom drive and a message pops up offering me several options on how to open the files on the CD.Instead of clicking 'always use this option to open the files on the CD' I just clicked OK.
After doing this two or three times the option no longer pops up. Now I have to double click my Computer icon, right click the CD Rom drive and click Open to view the contents. If I want to copy files I have to use the old fashioned way of 'copy and paste'. How do I get this option back.
Please help.

Have you tried a system restore back to when it worked ok.
