I am going to reload my computer with windows 7, probably download the PC Advisor offer. Is it possible to also keep the XP system on the computer so that my MS Office program and scanner still are available.

Only if you dual-boot, but are you sure W7 drivers aren't available? Office should work on W7 without problems.

Ms Office works fine on Windows 7 - has done ever since I installed Windows 7 Sept.2009 - Depending on how old your scanner there should be drivers available - even Vista one's can work on this occasion.

If your scanner will not work at all on win 7, buying a new one need not cost a lot, I replaced mine a while ago for £40. If your scanner is that old I would say you deserve a new one now.
As for office even 2003 works fine on Win 7.
