I have a friend who has two desktop PCs (his and hers) both running Win 98SE. On NTL BB via a Belkin router and both able to access the internet. If he switches "his" to Win XP will "hers" still be able to access the internet?

Yes.

His PC --> Router --> Internet

Her PC --> Router --> Internet

The paths from the two PCs to the internet are quite independent of one another and the operating systems are immaterial - the computers don't need to be running Windows at all, they can be running Linux or be Apple Macs.

Thanks, mgmcc. Will let him know that so that he can buy Win XP.

that's exactly what I have at home.

Old pc Win 98se / newer pc Win XP home / work laptop Win XP pro. All attached to Netgear wired DSL router which in turn is wired to the NTL BB modem. All 3 can access the internet at the same time, or each pc on it's own. The router also allows the 2 desktops to be networked for file and printer sharing, and more importantly, gaming.
