I recently ran the XP recovery disk on my samsung laptop computer. I now find that i can't create network connections. The fix it seems is to install XP service pack 1. been to microsoft update website and ran windows update. However, after selecting Scan for Updates, the scan stops at 0%. I've seen this problem before but can't for the life of me remember the fix

boclair, I had the same symptom & fixed my problem by substituting http with https at the start of the address for windows update in IE.

boclair,

i've seen this a couple of times, and i'm sure it relates to the date on your laptop.
If it is not set to the correct date, windows update will not recognise it.

There are a few other fixes for this and i'll try to have a look for them, and pass them on.

Regards. Joe.
