Windows XP startup problems

Help!

I defragged my hard drive a few weeks ago. Ever since, most times when I switch the pc on, I get the 'startup has been unsuccessful' screen. If I go to 'start windows normally' it will start up, but sometimes it brings me back to the same screen more than once.

I am on Windows XP. Does anyone know what is going on, and an easy way of fixing it?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Worth giving system restore a go? Start in safe mode and you should be able to get into it and restore to a point prior to your defrag.
