Windows XP start up problems after removing update

  Tessa348 17:14 12 Feb 05

PC with broadband connection switched on today after a weeks A/L. Initially all ok and internet access fine. Until the windows auto update downloaded all last weeks updates. After this my broadbank connection could not be accessed. I uninstalled the new updates from the add/remove progs thinking that one of these was the root cause. On rebooting cannot get past the windows backdrop screen, no icons or start button accessible. Error window states 'ordinal110 could not be located in the dynamic link library shdocvw.dll'. Have tried to start in safe mode but F8 is not operating on rebooting and I cannot get the start button to access system restore to reverse my mess-up. Please can any kind person advise me as to what to do next.

Reboot to safe mode (keep tapping F8 keyafter first screen)
