Windows XP, something fishy....

I have posted on this one, but I cannot find the post and it did not have many replies.

Some times when I start my PC, you know in the XP start menu it has the quick menus:

My Documents >

My Pictures >

My Music >

Etc....

Well I have them set to show as a menu, which I like, but here is the odd part, it changes to open as link for no reason.

How can settings change like this?

I have repaired windows, and tried defrag, etc...

I have also run anti-virus several times with no infection.

What could be the cause becuase it is driving me mad, it chnages often back to open as link.

Has anyone got a way to stop this from happening?

Regards,
Gareth

"but here is the odd part, it changes to open as link for no reason"

I'm probably being a bit thick here, but exactly what do you mean "open as a link"

There are settings in XP to open in a windows (as a link) or open as a menu, or dont show it.

It changes back to open as link (Windows) instead of a menu.

Can anyone help?

Gareth

Looks a strange one.

Very odd, I have never seen that before.

I reccomend a repair and then a reformat if nothing else works, but backup all files that are important.

Sorry, I posted in the wrong post, silly me.

However that may be what would solve my problem.

Ah - see what you mean - never looked there - you mean "Display as a link" (XP Pro).

Reformatting/reloading would not have been my first thought here. Can you identify the circumstances under which it changes?

Thanks.

It just changes, thats why I am baffled.

You are on target now DieSse.

Can you help then?

Gareth

It drives me mad, it is annoying while you are used to the other setting.
