Windows XP. Restore

I have lost the Restore facillity from my m/c.

When I try to access it a message tells me that it cannot find the file.

Anybody help.

I have had a similar problem before. I cannot find it on the Microsoft site.

As far as I can remember you boot into safe mode and then search for the rstui.exe file in the Widows32 folder. Right click it and choose install. That should then re-install system restore. Re-boot and it should be back to normal.
I have done it once some time ago.

Restart the computer in safe mode:
Restart your computer. While your computer is starting, repeatedly press the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to run under multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot menu appears.
When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select an option, and then press ENTER.
When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom of the screen, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Open My Computer, and then open the C:\Windows\INF folder.
Right-click the sr.inf file, and then click Install.
When the installation process has completed, restart the computer.
