Windows XP registration problem

  quillwills 11:01 21 Feb 06

I recently bought a 6 month old laptop with a registered copy of XP se. Is their any way I can now be registered as the owner of this software as I'm fed up with being recognised as the original owner?

If you just want to change your local settings.
Change coputer name in Control panel\system\comp. name.
Change account in control panel\user accounts.
I guess you will need to reregister the software with Microsoft.

There are programs that will allow you to change the Registered Owner and Company, but I can't remember what these programs are called, but you could do it manually:

Open the registry (Run->Regedit) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Now just change the value for RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization.

ps. Backup your Registry BEFORE you try to apply this "tweak", just incase it goes wrong!!
