Windows XP problem

  grazzyt 13:21 27 Dec 06

I had an error message saying that the file "HAL.dll" was "missing or corrupt" and by searching the internet I found that the way to solve the problem was by re-installing Windows XP.

This I did and it worked fine. The issue is that when I go into My Computer, I have two Windows folders. Also by going into the Program Files folder, all my programs are still there (as before the reinstall of Windows) but when I try to run a program I am told I cannot access it and that I should try to reinstall it.

Basically I just want to be able to run my installed programs but I am at a loss as to how I can do this.

Any help would be very greatfully recieved.

you have to redirect them - it is something that has to be done using the registry editor. It may well be possible to rename the original windows folder oldwin for example and then rename the new folder to c:/windows in which case all the links should be reestablished.
