I am unable to remove two devices from Device Manager Network Adaptors. One is one Intel Pro 100 PCI Network Interface Card adaptor, the other is a USB cable modem. Neither device is present as I have physically removed them. I cannot uninstall them either in Safe mode or normal operation. Error mesage reports 'device may be necessary to boot up the computer'. Have tried reconnecting and re-installing them. Intel NIC is then listed as Interl pro #2 and the modem will not re-install on top of itself however, I can uninstall Intel pro #2 but the original installation remains. Anyone any ideas
please? fanx in anticipation.

Go into the BIOS and make sure that "Wake up on LAN" or "Boot on Lan" or Something simliar is not enabled.

Disbale it, if it is.
